Abstract

Alcohol dependence syndrome is a mental and behavioral disorder affecting a few percent of the population. It develops as a result of interaction of biological and social factors. Among the social factors, two groups can be distinguished: those which are conducive to the development of alcohol dependence syndrome and those which prevent its formation.  A common cause of alcoholism is the transgenerational transmission, meaning the transfer of alcohol dependence from the generation of parents to their children. In families where the phenomenon of alcohol dependence does not occur, the breakdown of family ties can result in increased susceptibility of the young generation to internalization of deviant standards from the peer group. Maintaining the consistency and integrity of the nuclear family, as well as of the extended family, is one of the key conditions to prevent the development of alcohol dependence in the population.
