Abstrakt
Late adulthood (elderly age) is the last developmental phase of the human life. Aging is associated with impaired functioning of many internal organs, as well as deterioration of sensory and cognitive functions. Unfortunately, in a postindustrial society devoid of the deeper values, old age is seen as
a negative value and is the cause of stigmatization, rejection and closing the seniors in the ghettos. The social image of the senior age is fraught with the risk of victimization. Seniors are often victims of violence and the error of negligence on the part of their relatives and caregivers in nursing homes. Muscular weakness and sensory impairment as well as stigmatization of seniors make them an easy object of criminal offences such as theft, robbery and homicide. A thesis can be put forward that the late adulthood is, like childhood, a period of specific exposure to victimization. It can be counteracted only by changing the paradigm of thinking about old age in the personalist and humanistic context instead of perceiving it as the inevitably negative value.
