Abstrakt
Psychoactive substances have been present in human life from the earliest times, but nowadays contacts with drugs at an increasingly young age is becoming more frequent, more and more new psychoactive synthetic substances are being produced, and the growing market of illegal substances causes more addiction, morbidity and mortality. The article discusses the types of drugs and symptoms of addiction, the specificity of drugs and factors that condition the addiction (eg. the type of drug, usage, personal characteristics of the addict), the epidemiology of the phenomenon, the treatment process (medical help) and therapeutic help (various psychological and socio-pedagogical interventions). The issue of spiritual causes and effects of addiction as well as forms of spiritual help were also discussed.
