The authors analyze the course of child development in the prenatal period. They discuss in detail the developmental changes taking place in particular weeks. They point out that already in the third week of fetal life begins organogenesis, at the end of the second month, all internal organs are formed and fulfill their basic functions. The third month is a period of high muscle activity. In the fourth month, intense brain development occurs. In fifth - the child hears and responds to sounds. In the sixth month, the child has the ability to be in two states: sleep and wakefulness. In the third trimester of prenatal life, the intellect and personality are formed. In the eighth month the child experiences various emotions. The article also discusses the harmful effects on the developing child's body during the prenatal period such as drugs, alcohol, nicotine, caffeine, narcotics, sodium glutamate, lead, ionizing radiation. Inflammation of the air and water, increased temperature of mother’s body and excessive exercise, poor diet, noise and strong negative emotions, especially those directed against the baby, also have negative effects on the unborn child. Studies have shown a significant (neurohormonal) influence of the emotional state of the mother on the developing baby in her womb.
