Abstract

The aim of this paper is to present results of studies focused on attachment styles and betrothal quality. John Bowlby’s attachment theory suggests three attachment styles: secure, avoidant and anxious-ambivalent. Betrothal quality is here defined by understanding love and quality of communication between the betrothed.

In order to verify the hypotheses, 130 betrothed couples were studied with a set of three psychological questionnaires assessing attachment styles, understanding love and communication. Analyses revealed that different attachment styles determine/affect the quality of betrothed life in terms of the aforementioned factors. The results confirm that attachment styles can be seen as predictors of betrothal quality.
