Abstract

Nowadays, the contradiction between science and faith concerning the beginnings of the divine creation of the universe is a focal point of scholarly debate. The social unconsciousness of the cosmology and biblical cosmogony requires a deeper look at the descriptions of creation in the Book of Genesis and the corresponding biblical interpretation. The article is an attempt to get at the main truths derived from the biblical vision of creation and the entire imagination of the origin of the universe from the point of view of the Catholic religion. It precisely defines the essence of subsequent formulations used in the Bible to describe God’s creative works. It also presents systematized concepts of the genesis of the universe proposed by philosophers, astronomers and physicists. All scientific theories try to figure out the first cause of the cosmos, and many of them assume that it was an eternally existing God. The article shows the correlations between the biblical cosmogony and the scientific cosmogony.
