Abstract

The article reviews the research on the importance of academic and emotional intelligence in children and adolescents. When describing selected empirical data, areas of functioning such as scholarly capability, interpersonal relations, adaptation and prosocial behaviour, and stress management were taken into account. Based on the literature review, it has been concluded that both types of intelligence significantly contribute to increasing the effectiveness of children and adolescents. Therefore, the development of cognitive as well as emotional skills should be supported in the educational process. Keywords: academic intelligence, adolescents, children, effectiveness of functioning, emotional intelligence
