Abstract
In the article, the author emphasizes that the problem of infertility concerns practically all cultures and societies around the world and affects around 10-15% of couples in procreation age. In understanding the notion of infertility, not only the biological context but also its social understanding must be taken into account. This context in infertility studies is necessary because the individual is constantly being shaped by social influences, especially in taking up the roles desired by society. The problem of infertility is experienced differently by women and by men. These differences are particularly pronounced in cultures where maternity is understood as the main role of women
