Abstract
Postpartum depression is a mental health problem for around 10-20% of mothers all over the world. The specificity of symptoms determines the difficulties in childcare, making it difficult or even impossible for a woman to fulfill the role of mother. The consequences of postpartum depression confirmed by numerous studies are associated with a threat to the proper development of the child, but also to the functioning of the woman in other roles (i.e. marital, social roles). Experiencing depression symptoms in connection with the birth of a child, especially if not treated, may also influence the decision not to have more children. The purpose of the article is to present the potential risks of postpartum depression, which can contribute to greater awareness, both of relatives and specialists who care for women after childbirth.
