Abstrakt
Współczucie kojarzy nam się najczęściej jako ustosunkowanie do drugiej osoby, doświadczającej cierpienia, trudu, czy przeciwności. Tymczasem, od niedawna, psychologia wskazuje, że taka postawa warta jest również odniesienia do samego siebie. Współczucie względem siebie okazuje się być zdrowym ustosunkowaniem wobec własnej osoby, nieobciążonym negatywnymi konsekwencjami, jakie może nieść m.in. wysoka samoocena. Artykuł przedstawia opis tego konstruktu, wskazuje różnice między samowspółczuciem a użalaniem się nad sobą i samooceną. Zestawia przeprowadzone dotąd badania korelacyjne współczucia do samego siebie i ukazuje jego związki z takimi zmiennymi psychologicznymi jak cechy osobowości, adaptacyjne funkcjonowanie, postrzeganie swojego ciała czy pełnienie roli rodzicielskiej.
