Abstract

The article aims to present a certain way to investigate iconographical representations of medieval dance. In the beginning the author shows some contexts for the dance and signalizes different sources for medieval dance: theoretical sources, literary sources, musical sources and iconographical sources. Next, concentrating on the iconographical sources, he/she shows how one can use visual representations of dance in researching this phenomenon. The author recalls known spatial forms of medieval dance: chain dance, couple dance and solo dance. He/she also acknowledges difficulties and obstacles in contemporary attempts to reconstruct medieval dances.
