Abstract

The aim of the article is to present the idea of patient-centered communication (PCC), which is one of the important elements of high-quality healthcare. Good communication between medical staff - in particular between a doctor and patient - can significantly contribute to patient satisfaction as well as increase the chance of choosing the most adequate treatment methods consistent with patients’ values. The article contains proposals for specific phrases, which may be a hint for people working with patients on a daily basis. Although the patient-centered communication style meets with the enthusiasm of most people, it is important to remember about the individual approach to patients who for various reasons may prefer a more directive, biomedical style of communication.
